Fixed price or by time and material?
With a fixed price the amount is settled before we start. If it takes longer than planned, that is our risk. This suits a clearly defined scope: a flat clearance, a final clean, a move after a survey.
With billing by time and material you pay the hours actually worked and the kilometres actually driven. That is cheaper when everything is well prepared and goes faster than expected, and more appropriate when the scope cannot be pinned down seriously in advance.
What determines the price
Four factors, in this order:
Volume
The volume of goods to be moved or cleared, by far the largest single factor.
Access
Storey, lift, staircase width and distance to the vehicle. Regularly underestimated.
Extra services
Packing service, assembly, furniture lift, cleaning, disposal, storage.
Distance
Travel time and kilometres, the smallest item on short routes.
Date
Month end and Saturdays are in higher demand; booking early gives you more choice.
Type of disposal
Whatever goes on through the Brocki service drops out of the disposal bill.
What you can influence yourself
The most effective lever is volume. Everything sorted out before the move has to be neither carried nor transported. On long distance moves and in storage this shows up especially strongly.
The second lever is preparation: boxes packed and labelled, clear routes, furniture taken apart, parking arranged. Billing by time and material, that saves you hours directly, and even with a fixed price the quote comes out lower when we can count on good preparation.
What does not get added
Our quote states the full scope. Travel, materials and the operation of the furniture lift are included where they are listed. There are no items that first appear on the invoice.
If the scope changes during the work, an extra cellar compartment or considerably more material than stated, we raise it before we carry on. You then decide how to proceed.
Frequently asked questions
Why do you not publish a price list?
Because a figure given without knowing volume and access would be misleading. Two moves from flats of the same size can differ by a factor of two, depending on the storey and the access.
Does the survey cost anything?
No, it is free and without obligation, including when you go on to choose another company.
Which is cheaper, fixed price or by time?
It depends on how well prepared you are. Well prepared clients are often cheaper off by time and material. If you want certainty, take the fixed price. We give you our view at the survey.
Are there surcharges for Saturdays or month end?
Whatever surcharges apply are in the quote, not first on the invoice. Booking early gives you more choice of dates.
